Hi all -

We moved to NOVA 15 months ago and rented a townhouse in Vienna for a year+ while we were getting to know the area. We're (wife plus 2 small children) considering moving out to Ashburn and are looking at renting "inside the gate" at Belmont CC.

For those who might know -

How much renting has gone on and how do local residents view it?

We won't have to wear placards around our neck announcing that we are renters will we?

Thanks much for any feedback.

No, a simple R tattooed to your forehead will do.

I don't know how much renting goes on "inside the gates" but I don't think you'll be judged or that anyone will know if you don't tell them.

There is so much transition in this area that many people with high-caliber jobs (think state department, foreign service, etc.) rent in this are for a year or two while they are living here. Plus buying a house is so darn expensive around here that a large number cannot afford it or take a long time to save for it, that I don't think renting is looked down upon as in other places. (Just make sure the "R" is capitalized and in black ink, please. And tell your children they need to put theirs in a bright colored crayon - not light yellow or pink. :-) Joking with you, of course.)

Thanks for the feedback - perhaps we'll cut a "R" into our lawn just to be sure.

We're also thinking of relocating our office (we own and operate a small consulting firm currently located in FFX City) to Reston Town Center - any estimates on a commute (down #7) to RTC at typical times?
