You can walk a former railroad line in Springfield that is now part of the Lake Accotink Trail. It starts at Rolling Road, just before the road goes over the current ROW via bridge, that's if you're heading south.

Another gem is the former Arlington & Fairfax Electric Railroad. The portion between Vienna and Fairfax City is still explorable. More info here - Abandoned Rails: Fairfax to Vienna
