Exactly! "Headmasters" don't mess around! And when you're paying a lot for a service, you're there EARLY, no?

So, at what point would the punishment fit the crime if this behavior continues? After twice as many tardies, or three times as many? And along those same lines, what punishment fits the current state of the crime?

I, for one, am very happy to see my property taxes being spent on this.

You would think so but we have a few students who are frequently tardy.

Then when it's time to move on to a private high school, parents are shocked to see that tardies and absences are shown on transcripts. And private high schools take those into serious consideration - especially those high schools with 200+ applicants to narrow down for the 20-25 openings they have available. Oopsies!

There can be other solutions that fit the crime better (although they might require new legislation). Why not fine the parents an amount commensurate to the time wasted by administrators/teachers/etc in dealing with the tardy student?

This shouldn't require criminal prosecution. Maybe I'm being too libertarian here, but I don't like the state criminalizing things that shouldn't sensibly be criminalized.

Sending your kid late to school a few times doesn't constitute "abuse". lol

Only in this situation can the number 150 signify 'a few'....

So....the mother has a disability, and so do the kids. so, write it up in the IEP they can get to school late.

BTW, I've had rheumatoid arthritis for ~ 30 years. I always get where I'm going on time, even though RA is especially worse in the mornings. how do I accomplish this? Because I know I take longer, so I start getting ready sooner. If it takes me an hour to get dressed, I get up earlier. If I live a long ways, I start driving sooner. Etc, etc........especially if the kids have a disability, they need to learn how to deal with it, not expect the world to constantly bend to them.

Excellent post Marylee - I didn't know/read anything about a disability in mother. My thinking: get up 15 mins. earlier and get organized.

Never. Being late is not a crime. It amazes how many stupid things people can get arrested and use up taxpayer money for.

Yes, criminal charges are too severe. I would suggest "caning" for these parents...one lash for each tardy should be sufficient.

If only people would stop doing stupid things (aka making bad choices that are detrimental to others)...
