@ smurf12

Considering what Denton said above, if you intend to host and/or have a lot of visitors, then the gate could be very inconvenient to your guests. As a private person, it was attractive to me as I do not intend to host many parties.

@ Denton

Again, never thought of it like that, but by my count, we have 5 layers of security!

- Low area crime rate to begin with (I could leave house my door unlocked for a month and I don't think anyone would try to enter my home)
- Public police
- private security (gate)
- home security system
- law abiding citizens can carry a gun (and many do!)

It may be overkill, but hey, it makes us feel safer...

Also, how are Belmont Greene and Belmont Land Bay related to BCC?

Belmont Green and Belmont Land Bay are different communities, AFAIK.

The inside vs outside thing is inexplicable. That being said, I know several folks "inside" who are very nice people and don't agree with it either.

Does living in a gated community really stop outsiders from entering or is it mostly for car traffic? I really hate coming home every night and finding advertisements and pizza menus wedged in my door. I'm sure burglars can tell who is out of town when they see all this junk piling up on your front stoop. Also having men knock on your front door at 7 or 8 pm every night trying to give you an estimate for window replacement is troubling. Are gated communities fully fenced or is it just at the entry drive?

Belmont CC is fully fenced and I have had no problem with the solicitations that you describe - albeit I've only been here a few months - and do not anticipate it.

it just means the ones in $800k homes are bitter because they are in more debt than the ones in the $500k homes but still get to live in the community. Not to mention I am sure some bought during the bubble which adds even more fuel to fire lol

Finally a resident came by and told us how to go ALL the way around the complex to a gate where an attendant would grant us entry to the country club. What a pain! Who the heck needs a gated community in ASHBURN? Or Leesburg? The last time I was in River Creek in Leesburg I got trapped on the INSIDE and couldn't get out because all but one gate is closed after some magical hour in the evening. My GPS didn't know that. Gated communities are just plain silly. If the neighborhood is so dangerous that it requires fences and gates, live somewhere else. Your friends will hate visiting you in these silly gated communities.

What kind of neighborhood does God live in that he needs a "pearly gate"?
