My hunch is he got a nice campaign donation from a Buddhist there so he was minding his manners. But you saw him there and so that's your observation. It's faulty logic to say he's not a bigot just because you haven't seen it. I have.
OK, fair enough--so what's the story? Did you hear him use a racial slur or something like that?

Ha! Let's see: 1954: Segregation is outlawed in schools. 1965: First Civil Rights Act passes. 1973: Roe vs. Wade. 1970s: Hiring/firing based on gender is outlawed. 1990: Americans With Disabilities Act passes. 2000s: Gay marriage is legalized in several states. 2011: Gays allowed to serve openly in the military.

Yeah, more conservative all the time.

Unless by "everyone else" you mean the GOP. In that case, you are 100% right.

Signed,
A gun-loving, tax-hating, anti-affirmative-action, property-rights-supporting, public-transit-eschewing ultra liberal
A pro-gay-marriage, pro-choice, anti-death-penalty, pro-EPA, Obama-supporting rightwing nut

(Translation: I believe in the Constitution--the whole thing.)

I think the word you are looking for is anti-semite not bigot.

Moran is a known anti-semite who thinks the "Jews control the media and started the war in Iraq". Those are his words, not mine.

I'm not going to get into full detail, but the most blatant was when he was talking to a girl I know and being cordial. The subject of religion arose, she told him her faith and he basically recoiled, got a disgusted look and stalked off without another word.

That word could fit if I were referring to people who were Jewish but I'm not. An anti-semite is a bigot, incidentally. I think anti-semitic as a term can be misused, many muslims are technically semitic.

I prefer the term bigot as it covers it all, it doesn't matter if it's only Zoroastrians he hates or any religious person he's still a bigot. And I am aware of his anti-semitic (or at least anti-Israel but they sound anti-semitic) statements as reported in the media.

Something like it. I'm not even getting into it because then it becomes about that religion or whatever, not about the guy who's being bigoted. I'm a religious freedom/separation of church and state guy. Anyone (especially a government official) showing that reaction to any religion ticks me off, whether or not it's wacky. A bigot's a bigot in my book. The other incidents that I have second hand were for a different group altogether, so it's clearly an issue with this guy from what I can tell.

bornindc, if you are so concerned about bigotry, what about the practice of calling what I assume is an adult female person a "girl"? That term is for children.

Moving the topic back to the original intent of the thread, I would like to see some discussion about what the candidates' positions on the issues are, rather than interpretations of facial expressions. Or maybe we have exhausted that topic.

We were both young adults at the time, when I was of an age that I would consider myself a boy. But I apologize if calling a young adult female a girl gives you offense.

Now that I've apparently hijacked the thread, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
