Well my current setup is provided by my company. I have Verizon Fios wireless and my company supplies me with a wireless laptop already set up with all the security applications either pre-loaded or that I download from the company intranet site. I then just sign on to the company VPN (Virtual Private Network) and it's the same as if I'm sitting in a company office somewhere.

SAHM's never get a break... but I would think the job rewards are wonderful!

I don't have to work today since my job goes by the federal government. So I get to be a temporary SAHM. I made a nice hot breakfast this morning and plan to clean the driveway and let my daughter play in the slop later and we will go sledding. I am cooking up home-made chili for lunch. I'll probably also do laundry and other light cleaning... but I really want to just enjoy the day.

My coworker, who just moved to this area and now lives in Crystal City, was shocked the government closed. He said it was just raining there.

It's snowing there now I'm pretty sure, since it's coming down here in Mount Vernon. I don't understand people who don't realize they don't just close because of the commute in. This sounds like the folks standing on the beach before a hurricane who can't fathom why the government is telling them to leave. Anyone who's ever commuted out of DC on a day when we had a major snowstorm start mid-day will be more appreciative.

I have 7 inches (already) out in Middleburg. 3 of those inches have fallen since 6 am......Very heavy snow, which will require multiple rounds of shoveling.....

Because the culture of the government was always this way. Carlingtonian said it on this thread or maybe it was the other one. Historically, it would have to be a blizzard before they closed down. To boot, most of the federal government is located inside the beltway and within DC. If DC was fine, they would remain open. They didn't give two hoots about what was going on, weatherwise, in Reston or Fairfax, or Greenbelt.

The mindset of closures seems to have really changed.

It seems silly, but in a way, I can understand it, given that 90% of fed workers come in from the burbs. They just want people off the roads. We all know how badly people drive here, so maybe that is the right call. Better safe than sorry.

Perhaps Snowmageddon had something to do with that.
