Hi,
I will be living in Arlington and possibly reverse commuting to Woodbridge. How long should I expect this commute to take during typical rush hour to and from?

If I altered my hours, say 11 AM-7 PM, would this improve the commute?

Another job option for me is in Fairfax...which commute would be more manageable? I've always lived in smaller cities...I'm ready for a huge culture shock!!

It depends on where in Woodbridge or Fairfax as far as which would be more manageable. Fairfax is a big county. Arlington to Woodbridge will be a breeze compared to those doing the opposite commute. 95 can still be an issue even on a reverse commute. Seems like there is always some type of construction somewhere or people crashing and screwing up traffic. You might be able to do it in as little as 30 minutes depending on where you start and finish.

It shouldn't be bad except when there's an accident on 95, though depends where in Arlington you are coming from. If you are coming from the NW part you will deal with the normal Arlington-DC traffic before you get to 395/95.

It would be very close to the Rosslyn station (near Arlington Cemetery).
And Fairfax the city.

Your Friday evening commute in the summertime will be terrible, probably even at 7pm.

Why Friday evenings in the summer? Is there something going on at that time?

95 south is always jammed on Fridays because so many people are going to the beach, or out of town elsewhere. It can back up on any Friday but seems to be at it's worse in the summer.

Edit: actually nevermind. I misread your post. You'll be going north in the evenings since you live in Arlington. That shouldn't affect you.

I used to do Arlington to Ft. Belvoir every day. Very easy via 395 or GWMP. And I did normal hours.

Same here, and I totally agree. 395/95 reverse commute is a breeze. When I used to live in Arlington and work near Dulles, the reverse commute on 66 took at least 45 minutes and there was a daily backup on 66 inside the beltway.

I commute from Arlington to Gainesville and 66 is such a mess in the afternoon. I can't for the life of me understand why they keep that 4th lane closed. It would solve all the congestion outside the beltway and would make it much safer. You see rear end crashes all the time on that stretch because people aren't expecting stopped vehicles ahead due to traffic (other than LA I don't think there is another city in America where there is such horrible traffic on a reverse commute). Also, there's no excuse for a major interstate in the most powerful country in the world's capital to narrow down to 2 lanes in each direction heading into the city. With these new taxes the widening of 66 inside the beltway better be th first that happens in this state. I-66 is a mess 12 hours a day inside the beltway on weekdays and weekends. I can't even go to Tyaons on the weekends because of all the 66 traffic.

Regarding a Arlington-Woodbridge commute, I've had to do field visits to Dunfries a couple of times this past year, so driving home I-95 NB moves at free flow speeds in the afternoon. Fridays seems to be the only day you will hit traffic and that will be on 395 due to Nats games from what I can tell.
