Wegmans signs lease for Chantilly store - Washington Business Journal

Quote:
Wegmans has signed a lease to build a store in Chantilly immediately east of the Route 28 interchange with Westfields Boulevard, a representative with the wildly popular supermarket chain confirmed.

Fairfax County Supervisor Michael Frey, R-Sully, on Tuesday convinced his colleagues to initiate a Comprehensive Plan amendment to support Regency Centers' planned rezoning of 21 acres for 180,000 square feet of free-standing retail use, including a Wegmans. The Centreville Independent first reported the news.
Interesting. This isn't that far from the Fairfax one, but then again that one is always crowded.

They're almost finished building the Alexandria location too near telegraph road. Congrats Chantilly!

This is good news. I've shopped at the Fairfax location a few times but the traffic makes it unattractive. Heading west on Westfields into Centreville during the evening rush is very congested so more traffic coming to Walney, Park Meadow and Poplar Tree on the east side.

It's interesting in that Wegmans is finding it profitable to expand all over Virginia vs. Just in NOVA.

Will agree that not as interesting as HOT lanes, wreckless diving, or bad weather but interesting.

I am curious if they would ever consider Hampton Roads. They don't have the concentration of wealth that we do here but there are some wealthy parts.

Wegmans does not jsut target wealthy areas. Look at where they are located in PA: Allentown, Bethlehem, Wilkes-Barre, Erie...

We were hoping for a Wegmans around Loudoun County Pkwy on Route 50, since Dulles Landing and Arcola Center will eventually be there as well.

All we have around here is Harris Teeters and a Giant. Well, eventually the Walmart on Dulles Landing, but we aren't big fans of Walmart

I find Wegmans locating in Richmond/Charlottesville interesting because they did not choose to expand to Hampton Roads and don't appear to have any plans to expand there.

I also find it interesting because (even though it's inaccurate...didn't the chain start in the Northeast?), a lot of people in Richmond associate "Wegmans" with "NoVa." And outside of its Fredericksburg outpost, that's been accurate for years. Interesting to see that they think the Charlottesville and Richmond markets could be profitable for them.
