Commute from Harpers Ferry to Reston (Leesburg, Jefferson: house prices, living in, restaurants)

Looking at relocating and will be working in Reston. I was initially looking at homes in Leesburg / Purcellville, but once I hit Harpers Ferry, the house prices are much more appealing. What would the commute be like? I am thinking an hour 10 or so? Hours are flexible, I can work whatever hours work best which would probably mean leaving the house at 6 and leaving Reston at 4.

If you're willing to take the toll road, it looks like that's the best route to go. Google maps says it's 57 minutes using the toll road and without traffic. I'd suggest leaving the house at 5:00am and Reston at 3pm since we have somewhat extended rush hours.

I think I found it. $2.50 per way so ~$100/month.

That's for the Dulles Toll Road. You'll also need to take the Dulles Greenway to get out to Leesburg. So, it will actually cost you $6.10 each way to get from Harper's Ferry to Reston for the least amount of time. That's $244 a month.

Ouch. Can anyone argue a point besides lower cost of living for living in WV opposed to Round Hill / Purcellville / Leesburg?

The country living I think would be great, but there really isn't much around. I'm thinking if I go with one of the 3 mentioned in VA, I can still have a nice sized yard, 15 minute less commute, and have more access to stores and restaurants. Sure I'll pay a little more, but it may be worth it.

Thoughts?

Personally, I think it's worth it. Granted, I have no W. VA knowledge, but I know Loudoun.

None. Western Loudoun is fairly rural, has a lot of quaint towns, an an increasing number of wineries. Not to mention much higher education levels than the communities just over the state line in Jefferson County.

Actually the tollway is not the huge issue, it's the long wait/traffic on Rte 7/9 just to get to Leesburg thats going to take away from living in the country.

I would strongly suggest you come here and do the drive one morning to see what it's like. Then consider what bad weather days, especially in the winter, will do to this commute.
