In my neighborhood, west end of Alex. - there is a house that was remodeled and is listed for $1,150,000!! It's still on a 1/3 acre lot (granted, it does look very nice inside) - BUT - the entire neighborhood sells for $400,000-$600,000 generally, Crazy!!

You'd have to be crazy to pay a million for anything West of Quaker Lane in Alexandria. So-so public schools, congested, moderate amount of property crime. Even Cameron Station isn't worth a million.

When I was working with my realtor I was surprised at the amount of million dollar homes in Woodbridge... and according to her they sell relatively quickly.

I think this is becoming common pretty much all over NoVa.

All I know about Woodbridge is that they have Ikea.. That alone would make it worth it for me.

I would trade the Costco, Target, Best Buy, and Home Depot (all within walking distance from where I live), for an Ikea. I like the european minimalistic, modern design.

Right now it's going to cost me a hellish drive down 495/95S on the weekend or $130 in delivery fees for a set of bookshelves!

I'd HATE living within walking distance of any big box store. I would move.

Since moving into the country, I realized I don't want any of them. Haven't been in a Costco in about 5 years. Went to IKEA once 10 years ago. Visit Target or Home Depot about once every 6 weeks.

I swear there is a McMansion around the corner in every NOVA hood, even the shady ones. I'm not really surprised.

Eh, personally I don't care much for Ikea. Although I have bought a few things there in the recent past, it took me a trip, maybe two, to take care of everything; haven't had a need to go back in a year. However, Costco, Target, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. require more frequent visits by far hence I would rather live closer to those. Btw, Costco does have some furniture, e.g. book shelves, etc. that it pretty damn decent and priced well.

Bottom line is that it's not like majority if not all of us here go to buy furniture and related household things weekly/monthly, so a longer trip to a furniture store vs. a longer trip to a grocery store makes more sense if the choice is between the two.

I've been seriously considering dumping my Costco membership and trying to use Amazon instead, and also getting the Amazon rewards Visa. We're already Prime members. I suspect most of the things we frequently buy at Costco(diapers, baby wipes, toilet paper, paper towels, etc) can be had on Amazon for the same price or cheaper and delivered to my front door. Will also save me the trouble of having a cart smashed into the back of my legs several times a month.
