I need to be at Union Station by 9:30 am this Wed. April 16th
and thought I would try drving from Gainesville, VA to Vienna metro.

Past experience tells me I should be at Vienna metro by 8:30 am.

Is there any daily parking there at this hour?
Any other ideas

THANKS

This is off topic, however, take the VRE 332 Train that leaves at 7:50am. It will get to union station at 9. There's free parking at the VRE station on Piper Lane/Broad Run airport station.

I live in Gainesville and it typically takes 1.5 hrs from Gainesville into DC via the metro & the drive to Vienna. There should be parking available at that time. I would just drive straight to the parking garage and expect to park towards the top.

How do you pay for parking at the Vienna Metro Station? It is my understanding that there are no people there to collect the parking fee?

SmarTrip. SmarTrip® cards are the only accepted form of payment for daily parking except at Anacostia, Franconia-Springfield, Largo Town Center, New Carrollton, Shady Grove, and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, where major credit cards are also accepted. You will not be able to exit any other Metro parking lot unless your SmarTrip card has enough money on it to pay the full parking fee.

You buy the SmartTrip card in the Station before you get on the train. You load it up with credit (at least 10 bucks) before you use it.

Default Parking at Vienna Metro

There may be parking at Vienna Metro at that hour. You could check out the commuter bus system to get to the metro station. There might even be a bus that will take you close to your work downtown.

Do you have to buy a SmartTrip card for only one trip? How much does the card cost?

smarttrip itself is $5

you only really need smarttrip to exit parking, you can get buy regular ticket for whatever amount needed to ride the metro.

you can look at the metro map while at the station and figure out how much fare you need, they have a chart there.

keep in mind that smarttrip funds do not expire, and its pretty convenient too.
