HELLO!
Does any one know what the tolls are on Route 66 from Centreville, VA to 600 Army Navy Drive, Arlington and where the tolls are along the route? ? Also are there any tolls on 395 or 495? Thank you.

There are no tolls currently on I-66 outside the beltway, but they are constructing two HOV-3/HOT lanes in each direction that will be tolled based on demand. I-495 has two HOV-3/HOT toll lanes in each direction that operate like this. I-395 has 3 toll lanes that are HOV-3/HOT and go inbound to DC in the AM and reverse to outbound in the PM.

Tolls are just a few dollars during this covid time, but I’d estimate that you would spend $30 per day if you used all three of those interstates to make that commute 3 years from now assuming you worked like 8 am to 5 pm. It would be free if you drive with 2 other humans.

In pre-COVID times, you could expect to pay $30 just for 66 inside the Beltway in the morning at 8 or 8:30. So, your estimate of total cost per day is way low.

The OP didn't give a time of day, (and he/she should know outside of rush hour 66 is free).

However, in Q4 2019 (before Covid), the average round trip toll on 66 was less than $12. East bound is more so without the return, East averaged $7.40 Only 00.33% of round trips were over $40 (so 1 trip in every 300). Is it possible to hit a $30 toll? Sure. If you can do any planning at all and have any flexibility at timing at all, it certainly shouldn't regularly be like that.

Default Questions

Thank you for the information. I have some questions: What does HOV-3/HOT Toll Lanes mean and can you please clarify “ 66 outside Beltway”? Thanks very much.

HOT stands for 'High Occupancy Toll' lanes - HOV3 means you have to have three people in your car (including yourself) to ride in the lanes for free - we have EZPass transponders that you can flick a carpool option on and you won't be charged the toll. If you choose to ride solo you pay a variably priced toll based on congestion levels.

66 outside the Beltway is just that - the portion of I-66 that is outside of the Capital Beltway which the road intersects with. People refer to it in that manner because in the past there were mandatory carpool restrictions on '66 inside-the-Beltway' during rush hours. If you were traveling inbound to DC you had to have another passenger in your car during the morning commute once you passed the Beltway intersection and away from DC to the Beltway in the evening.

The state actually does a very good job of publishing quarterly reports on ridership, tolls, transit times, etc.... You can find all the old posts under the "news and info" tab, although updates seemed to have stopped during Covid.

Isn't 66 inside 24 hour toll? If not isn't that supposed to hit soon?

OP you must purchase an EZ transponder on the ON position when driving on 66 INside the beltway, toll or not. They take photos of your car and the plates and manually send you a bill. I dont drive on 66 bc the tolling company, Transunion, requires a credit card on file plus has a habit of ghost bills and draining the account if you dont use it. you can search them on Google and its a norm practice in all the states they operate in.

I dont have a transponder bc of that

I go around the long way bc i dont want them to have access to my accounts and Im not in DC much
