Can anyone tell me anything about this store? I have been seeing the commercials on tv and when we were out in PWC last weekend I noticed one. How do their prices compare to the other stores?

They used to be Food Lion. They are just okay. On some things, their prices are pretty high, on others they are normal. I go there if I have to but there is no draw for me there.

Bloom (no "s"), was one of our favorite stores when we lived in PW. Not too big and they are all refurbished. According to my wife, they have better prices than Giant.

Wow that's impressive. I think Giant's prices are pretty good.

A few years ago Food Lion decided to split up into 2 stores: Bottom Dollar and Bloom. Bottom Dollar is what it sounds like, it's all the budget stuff. We used it to buy cheap chips, canned goods, and beer in college, but I wouldn't go for any of their produce. Bloom was the more "high end" store. I've heard good things, but haven't had a chance to go.

Bloom focuses on the smaller but more upscale experience. Some people do not like big stores. If you want a medium sized store use Safeway, Shoppers, Harris Teeter, Giant. A larger store would be Wegmans.

They all have their +/- but I prefer Harris Teeter for the weekly $20 off $50 coupons, variety and cleanliness of the store.

There is a brand new Bloom in Ashburn, just off Belmont Ridge Road. I have been wanting to go check it out, because I'm intrigued by their ads (and the whole scan-as-you-go option) and I'm wary of the Bloom closest to us (it was once a really nasty Food Lion and you can only put so much lipstick on a pig.)

Food Lion got a bad name from an ABC News expose (they were changing the expiration dates on their unsold meat). Bloom is the rebranded higher end version. I don't like it as well as most of the other VA chains, but it's ok.

Really?! I think Giant's prices are terrible! A box of cereal at Giant costs at least a buck more at Giant than at Wegmans. And don't get me started on their meat...

We've found Wegmans to be the cheapest grocery store for us. And it has the best variety, especially when it comes to meat and produce. We were looking for flank steak at Harris Teeter the other day because we didn't want to drive all the way to Wegmans - Harris Teeter's flank steak cost $23! For FLANK steak! We held off and pick up some at Wegmans for $14.

Well, they really did make the nasty Food Lion's kind of nice inside but it is still a ho-hum experience for me.
