What things would you say we HAVE to see before it's time to move again? Both in DC and surrounding area suggestions much appreciated! Surrounding cities? We want to see as much as we can of this amazing area.

Definitely check out the Eastern Shore, Williamsburg, Charlottesville, the Blue Ridge, Luray Caverns, etc. All the cool daytrips!

Also, enjoy eating alfresco at great cafes and restaurants in Georgetown, Old Town and Clarendon! Great for people-watching.

I likely have less than a year left in this area and i'm too busy jumping for joy to suggest anything.

I plan on trying to get to the National Harbor to see what the big fuss is about.

Spend a day (or at least a good portion of one) at National Cathedral, if you haven't already. Go on one of the free tours, then spend the rest of the day walking around outside enjoying the architecture and the beautiful grounds. Don't forget to bring a good pair of binoculars so you can check out all the gargoyles up close -- some of them are pretty unique!

Been there...done that. Unless they really have an event there, or you just want a quiet meal not really worth it.

Half the place is still under construction. There is plenty of parking, but you have to pay for it. Don't know if any of it is free. On a nice sunny day eating at one of the outdoor places might be nice, or taking the water taxi from old town, walking around there, have lunch, head back across.

Do a tour of the tempting family-owned wineries in Northwestern Loudoun County (before they pave it all over for tacky sprawl in ten years, anyways, but I digress). Scope out Historic Downtown Leesburg during a festival. Enjoy a picnic lunch and a game of frisbee at one of the parks along the south shores of the Potomac. As someone else excellently advised try outdoor bistro dining in Georgetown. Hit up the zoo one last time, along with as many of the museums as possible. Stroll along King Street in Old Town Alexandria. Spend part of one day in Ballston and Clarendon. Take a day-trip out to Annapolis or down to Charlottesville. Rent a bike and commit yourselves to the entire length of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD). Go running along Route 7 and laugh at the commuters who you are moving much more swiftly than as they sit in traffic, smacking their heads. Enjoy Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Wegman's while you have them; some parts of the country don't. Ditto Dave & Buster's and IKEA.
