It's a really pretty time to go there. BTW, if you haven't been there in a few years, you now have to remember to lock your car (and especially don't leave the keys in the ignition). You used to be able to just hop out and take a long walk without even thinking about locking the car. Times have changed. But you know.... they haven't changed all that much. Waterford's still one of the most crime free places around.

I'd actually prefer Leesburg to the other place (hehe) if I didn't have two commutes to worry about (the population density of the closer-in D.C. suburbs can make me feel horribly claustrophobic), but you-know-where is a nice compromise, I think.

Only in Waterford....

On the one hand, it's sweet that they hold on to that 1950's way of looking at life. And sweet that (until now) they've been able to live that way without attracting thieves. I do like the idea of living in a town where life is still that innocent. But even if I lived there I wouldn't tempt fate like that.

I mean, really! Leaving your car unlocked overnight, with the keys in the ignition? That's asking for trouble.

I hope peak week is as vibrant as it was last year. But I have a feeling it's going to be a dud. The colors seem a little washed out this year. It's still pretty, but I'm just not as excited by the leaves this year. Of course, maybe that will change by the end of the month.

Asking for trouble from whom?! Not many people have ever heard of Paeonian Springs, much less find their way there. Houses are usually sitting on multiple acres with long driveways. It's nearly impossible to approach a house at night without someone seeing or hearing you. Leaving the keys in the car, at the end of a long driveway, out in the country, is not that unusual. I have little doubt that it was local kids, the same kids who leave half empty wine bottles in the street because they don't want Mama to find them in their truck, and then steal street signs with their names on them. Not to worry, the deputy sheriff who patrols Paeonian Springs knows all them, all 3 of them.

Yes, it is turning, and no, it has not peaked. Lots of green still around with some bursts of red and yellow.
