So anyway I thought Miami by climate but honestly I think when I was in the Philippines it was a lot like this. Maybe hotter there. Okinawa a little bit?
I don't think Honolulu is much like SD. SD is brown and desert Mediterranean landscape backdrop. Honolulu is green and lush tropical. San Diego has cold ocean water, Honolulu warm water. SD's beaches are not close to the downtown as Honolulu's are. If you say SD is like Honolulu, you could also say a bunch of Australian cities and South African cities are too, which they are not. I think you need a tropical city to compare to Honolulu. How about Panama City, Panama (I don't think it compares well but thought I'd throw it out there... PC is a lot like Miami)? Maybe some Brazil cities like Rio, Recife or Fortelezza? Pape'ete Tahiti (a smaller scale the Honolulu).
