I'm curious about the traffic from the North Shore areas to Schofield Barracks vs. traffic from Waipahu/Ewa Beach to Schofield Barracks? How do they compare? Are more people trying to get to Honolulu vs. Schofield so coming from the south there would be less traffic? We're trying to figure out the best areas to look for housing & my husband has it in his head that traffic from the North Shore to Schofield would be horrendous. I disagree.

Thanks in advance!

Why not live in Mililani?

I would think Ewa Beach would be worse, as it can take forever just to get out of Ewa Beach in the morning.

Because I can live in a suburban "McMansion" anywhere. If we're gonna be in HI, I want to be near a beach.

Uh - Mililani hardly has what anyone would call McMansions - and you are about 15 minutes from the beach. Regarding traffic and better beaches - stay North Shore.

I think her point is that she wants to be near a beach. Perhaps near enough to see or walk to? I don't know the geography well enough to answer, but is there anywhere they could live near the beach and commute to Schofield?

Thanks Honolulu Waku Waku, that is what I meant.

I spoke with a guy I went to college with who is on island & he's pretty much persuaded me NOT to look in Ewa Beach. Too far, bad commute & worst, it's hot & the utilities are about 3x what we pay on the mainland. SOOOO, we're primarily looking in Mililani, Makakilo & Waipahu.
