Because I work in the oil industry, I spend 85 to 90% of my time away from my family. I have a loving and understanding family and I think GOD for having an understanding wife. She has been mom and dad for the last several years. I travel between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Rio de Janeiro, and Houston. After careful reflection the wife and I decided to stay in the Honolulu Hawaii area. I have decided to take the entire Summer off for vacation. I planned for 6 months. The kids love the beaches, crime is low, they just love their school and my wife is involved in all of the the housewife activities she can. The kids are starting Summer Vacation and I promised them an Asian vacation. We have been blessed with 5 adorable children. They know the Hawaiian dialect better than most natives, LOL. We could have been together in Rio de Janiero but the wife felt safer with the kids in Honolulu since I travel extensively. The company would have paid for housing, school, a driver, security, etc. We are both natives of Los Angeles. Here is where I need the help, I know where we are going. I just want to know the best sights for families; because I always travel for business.
1. We are going to start the vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii, the kids want to see the black and red sand beaches.
2. We are going to Kyoto, Japan-need help with sights for kids.
3. We are headed to Tokyo, Japan-need help with sights for kids.
4 We will travel to Hong Kong- same help
5. We will travel to Shanghai-same help
6. We will travel to Beijing-same help.
7. After China we will travel to Singapore for a few days same help.
8. After Singapore Dubai for a week, I know we will drive the sand dunes, ski in the mall, swim and any other suggestions..
9 Abu Dhabi I have few sights in mind any suggestion appreciated.
10. I have 1 business meeting in Moscow any suggestions for the kids.
11. Then to Los Angeles to spend the rest of the Summer with Grandparents. Thanks for any suggestions, I want the kids and the wife to have the Summer of their lives.
Glad you got a laugh. I've read all the travel books published. I just wanted some tips from families that have done an Asian Vacation, anyone with an 8th grade education can read. I wanted real like experiences. What has happened to people to make them so sarcastic, read between the lines. I carry enough in my wallet to afford every fodors published. Maybe its because I was raised in the South with manners that matter.

Aloha welcome, sorry about our friend here, he was an abused child lol (joking viper). True is viper does make a point alot of people who have lived in Hawai'i don't necessarily travel to asia. Im one of those guys. Might i suggest checking out the Areas you mentioned on CDF here? Like japan and china i know they have forums under Asia and there are also americans on them. Ask them for suggestions for your little ones. Good luck and Aloha
Please ignore the rudeness. It's not characteristic of most of us here...
The Big Island has white sand, black sand, and green sand beaches. The Hawaii Beaches link McFrosty just put up has details.
I personally recommend the black sand beach at Punalu'u because it is also the place where sea turtles come up on the beach to sun. That is a remarkable, unforgettable experience if you can see that.
It's on the same side, the windward side, as the Kilauea volcano at Volcanoes National Park, site of what many call the most active volcano in the world.
And on the other side, at the southernmost point of al the US states, is the green sand beach, made up of olivine crystals thrown off when hot lava meets cold sea water, and carried south by the currents. If you want to visit there you'll need a 4-wheel drive, or hire a local to take you down.
Depending on which way you drive you can do green sand then black sand then the volcano, or volcano then Punalu'u then South Point easily within a day. And of course there are many, many other wonderful activities and sights to see, but those are what you specifically mentioned.
Here's a post I wrote a while back giving some more highlights of a tour around the Big Island. And there are more details in the archives on various features if you care to use the Search function.
You'd get a better response in the San Francisco thread. Most people in Hawaii haven't stepped foot in Asia.
Not true at all. I've been to Asia (China/Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan briefly) several times in both my childhood and adult years. And most of my friends and colleagues have visited there before as well for work and vacation. There are locals that have family there. Some local Reserve and National Guard frequent there. Plenty go to teach ESL. And a ton of young to middle aged men visit there to go "golfing".
Unfortunately, OP, I can't offer any advice as I can't remember much from when I was there as a young child and I've never traveled there with children.
Really? Hmmmm, only about 1/3 of all Americans even have a passport. Of that 1/3, most of those passports are used for travel to/from Mexico and Canada.
My definition of most is greater than 50% - Most people in Hawaii have not been to Asia - even where I work, most people haven't been to Asia and the flight is nearly free.
