And take gas fueled showers?

They have access to the showers at the gyms on base, which are not affected by the oil issue. Overall, it seems more comfortable than living in a cramped hotel under the circumstances I described, IMO.

Maybe - although packing up the kids and spouse to shower on a base doesn't sound appealing either - they aren't forced to stay in Waikiki are they - isn't it just an option?

There is a list of hotels that they had to choose from, but speaking strictly in terms of capacity (and hotel costs . . . government is only going to reimburse up to a certain amount, so hotels in Ko Olina as an example are likely out), this likely means Waikiki (and immediately surrounding areas) for the great majority of folks who are staying in hotels I'd wager.

Yes I heard the same, news they have to move. It is hard with Pets the Waikiki Hotels are usually not pet friendly. From what i have heard most Navy Family members had to move because of the fuel odors.

Even if this doesn't actually do much, these filters are necessary from a psychological aspect I argue. I need to read more into what is going to happen to the filtered water.

Seems like the water is getting flushed into the sewers, etc., but then the Navy spokesman in the article mentioned:

“We will return the water in the safest way possible. No expense was spared, very best to remediate this issue.”

All in all, if these filters are so great, I think it's a waste to dump 25 million gallons of water into the sewer system, but that's me.

Friday the Navy started to pump water to the filters for 5 Fire Hydrants in the Pearl City Hosing area. Water was being Flushed into the Grass. I guess later when the Navy starts Pumping the Houses themselves the water will have to be pumped to the Sewer.

Interestingly, did David Ige declare the area a disaster area to receive some federal funds for the people in the housing complex? I don't know if David Ige can bring in any federal aid. They'll have to rely on state money to fix the water supply. It could be anyone of the state representatives too. To bring in the money for the Military. Or they had their own crew set up to fix it themselves. I think they had their own crew to work on it and not so much rely on state engineers to look after the area and fix it. Which it will probably take even longer to fix.
