Actually, i almost always mention positives, i just want you to know what you're getting yourself into. If you have to sell in 2-5 years or even more you might lose you *ss. Seeing that you are coming from MI i should mention that the Mahoning Valley's economy is very similar and we've not only be hard hit by this recession, but we've been down for a good 30 years or more with more and more jobs losses and more and more people leaving. Trust me, i want the best for you! Just wanted to give you fair warning.

If you need anymore help with the area just let me know. I have family in Newton Falls, I personally lived in Niles and i have friends in Girard, so i can let you know if an area is good or bad. Good luck on your search and i hope your fiance gets the transfer.

Iwinter829, you should add North Jackson to your search list. It's borders Newton Falls and Lordstown. It has a good school system, and country living, if that's what you're looking for. Depending on where you're at in North Jackson, it's a ten minute drive to the Lordstown GM plant, quick access to Interstate 76 to get you Kent, as well as a turnpike exit when you want to head back to Michigan for a visit.

I don't know about Salem, but for Newton Falls, Niles or Girard i would look at the rental section of TribToday.com - News, Sports, Jobs, Community Information - Tribune Chronicle - Warren, OH

You might also want to look into Simco_Apartment_Information They have lots of properties. The ones in Niles are decent and i lived in a townhome in Northbury Colony for 2 years (they allow pets there). Northbury is in Warren city, but it's Howland Schools and it's a pretty safe area near the Trumbull Country Club, a couple of grocery stores, etc. It's also 5 minutes from the www.eastwoodmall.com, probably 15-20 minutes from Lordstown, 5 minutes to Super Walmart. The 3 Simco properties in Niles are also in very convenient locations.

You might also look into Sawgrass Condominium Rental Community (probably too expensive, but nice)

Craigslist might be an option. Also, many people rent out homes around here and that can be affordable as well. Home rentals can also be find on TribToday.com - News, Sports, Jobs, Community Information - Tribune Chronicle - Warren, OH

I knew someone that lived here (in niles) and it's a pretty nice place. Eastwood Arms Apartments for rent in Niles, Ohio near Youngstown (http://www.universaldevelopment.net/eastwood_apt.html - broken link)

You'll also find that many people don't advertise rentals, many people just stick a sign in the yard to find potential renters. I know that's the case when many properties in Cortland.

^Again, if you have a place in mind please ask if it's a safe area, do not rely on the opinion of the landlord.

Alright Lordstown is a GO! He starts November 8th so for the next two weekends (not this upcoming weekend) we will be in the Lordstown area searching for homes..

Once we get a real estate agent set up I will list the houses we plan to look at. =)

^Wow, looks pretty nice, not really sure why it's so cheap. I see it's near 422 so maybe that's why? No idea.

Looks like it has a nice inground pool, good size garage, and the backyard is fenced. One house to the side, and a Chiropractic clinic directly behind.

I'm not real familiar with Girard, but that looks like a decent neighborhood. Cortlandgirl has more knowledge of that area.
