What I find most interesting is how it seems to rub people the wrong way when anyone should express something positive about Ohio. Way to go guys, let's make sure to kill all forms of enthusiasm, especially from someone who *gasp* likes Columbus.

lolololololol

I think I just inadvertently shot Diet Coke through my nose.

DC absolutely nukes Columbus in every which way other than outlet malls, orange barrels, landfills-turned-golf-courses, flat terrain and cow-tipping contests.

Quite frankly, Cleveland and Cincinnati roll their eyes at what Columbus thinks it is. ... Go back to the kiddie table already. Your skyline pales in comparison to hapless Tulsa and Omaha; you're home to a minor league baseball team that Cleveland owns; your city is absolutely DOMINATED by a college football team (just like metropolises like Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, Lincoln, Norman, Gainesville and Baton Rouge); Kirk Herbstreit had to move away to escape the suffocating Buckeyes paranoia; and in AP datelines you're required to have "Ohio" after your city name so people know where, exactly, you are. (Only Cleveland and Cincinnati stand alone in datelines)

Oh, and MLS = yawn ... Hey guys, the Portland Timbers are in town!!!!!! ... lolololololol

I don't think anyone said anything negative about Ohio. Just that it's not particularly full of people that are all "Ohio rah-rah". Maybe people in Columbus see it differently, since they are the torchbearer for the state. Might be why people from elsewhere often think the state is so bland and boring. Maybe we can move the capital and improve our image. Improve the state's image and give Cbus a chance to show how awesome it is without the gov't crutch. Win-win. It is pretty cringe-inducing to think of someone visiting Columbus for a convention or something and thinking "so this is Ohio..." Which I'm sure totally happens all the time. Almost as bad as the people making judgments about the state based on what they see driving through on I70 or I80.

I am not rubbed the wrong way by people expressing positive things about Ohio. I am, however, rubbed wrong by the notion that OSU Buckeyes are some sort of glue holding the state together, while people from my region generally either hate them (e.g. most UC fans) or just don't care (Xavier fans, etc.). And that bothers me only because I do like Ohio, but not the Buckeyes.

Can't rep you again, but you managed to speak truth and make me lol.

Though I wouldn't doubt Columbusites think Omaha is a completely legit city, so that one might not translate too well.

Nobody said anything bad about Ohio. If you think Ohio is some cohesive, united state, then you haven't been to a lot of Ohio.

Typical Columbus attitude right there.

Except that person visiting Columbus' convention center is smack dab in the most gentrified, hip city neighborhood in the state "the short north" They see miles of restaurants, rehabbed homes, markets, gays and straights and diversity living in harmony, liberalism, attractive streetscapes, shops/fashion.

Surely this person will leave Columbus thinking "wow that is ohio?" it bucks every sterotype of the state. I think you may be due to a visit to central columbus around the convention center.

...Anyway, Columbus has so much to offer: #1 library system in the country, #1 zoo in the country, suburbs with very unique and wonderful characteristics (i.e. Reynoldsburg being the so-called 'birthplace of the tomato'), NHL, MLS, one of the most affordable income-to-housing ratios in the entire country according to Zillow, etc etc. This city is frigging awesome, and I'd sure as hell rather be there right now than Washington DC.
Three things immediately stand out about this post: (1) This fellow sure likes Columbus; (2) He knows how to engage and entertain an audience; and (3) He's devoured too much OSU genetically-enhanced Olentangy Corn to be called back to reality.

It's only on this forum. All the Ohioans I work and go to school with view the state as one entity; City-Data is unique in that it seems to attract a few chest-thumpers who are bitter their city is no longer the first thing which comes to mind when people think of the state. Cleveland was the most important city in Ohio up until recent years, before that it was Cincinnati, right now it's Columbus. Like who gives a rip LOL

And I almost spit a strawberry halfway across the office at the thought of you snorting Diet Coke through your nose.

HOWEVER, if someone likes Columbus better than DC, who are we to shout down his/her preferences?

[small voice]I like Columbus' skyline.[/small voice]

Surely it's not Columbus' fault that some people are so small-minded.

Also, when was the last time you were in Columbus?
