Are you implying that ALL educated young people are wild for abortion, gay marriage and pot? God help us.

The vast majority are. That's why as more Millennials hit voting age, more states are liberalizing pot laws and legalizing gay marriage. Abortion was settled years ago, but old white men still like to try to exert control over women like in the "good old days". They'll be dead soon, thank god.

Young whites may not feel that way. Whites under 30 voted Romney 51% to 44%. Blacks, or New Coalition Democrats if you wish, will drop in voting numbers when there is not a black candidate.

Just because a person polls in favor of gay marriage, it may be far down the list and not a factor in their voting.

Exactly. The problem with the anti-abortion issue is that pro-lifers are the vocal ones, always putting on a show all the time. Because they see so much kindred "support" out in public, they believe they are a majority. But the medical profession is full of pro-choice people. Many women, including the elderly who always vote, and business and professional women who have careers and also vote, are quietly and discretely but staunchly pro-choice. I know many men who are pro-choice, too. Many teachers. But they don't go around shouting about it and taking out ads. If states ever try to actually outlaw abortion again, I think the pro-lifers are going to be shocked to find how many pro-choice supporters will step up to oppose that.

"Wild for abortion" is not the same thing as wanting it to be available as a don't-ask-don't-tell option for those who want one. I have met several young women in the age 18-24 range in NE OH and western PA who already have all the children they want. They want their tubes tied, but many are having problems finding a doctor who will do it, "Because they are still so young and might change their minds." Gee, I think a woman of that age is competent to make that decision, especially if she already has 2 - 4 children. One of those women was married, and her husband went out and got a vasectomy the day after their child was born, before his wife and baby had even finished their 48-hour hospital stay, because the doctor(s) refused to sterilize the wife, citing her age (22, with one tubal pregnancy and also a pulmonary embolism behind her, she wanted no more pregnancies, for certain.) That couple was 100% sure that they want one child and one only.

All of this forcing women back into the motherhood-and-homemaker carp is truly a dirty deal, after all the hard-won battles of the '60s-'80s. My ex-SIL was very unhappy when she moved back East from out West. She strongly felt that women were treated better by the western states, but are oppressed by the religion and the SAHM culture in western PA. Warrenzee is correct: Well-educated and well-heeled women who are 100% determined to not have children will not have them, regardless of whether abortion is legal or not. They did exactly that when abortion was still illegal.

Who said anything about Obama? Gay marriage and legalized pot are bipartisan issues.

My statement shows that the liberal agenda, not bipartisan as you seem to think, is not a sure thing. Many democrats will not vote in 2016 because Obama is not running. You do realize that the top of the ticket affects voter turnout? Gay marriage, abortion, and legal pot are liberal issues. Portman and a few others do not change that.

They are small-government issues. Most Republicans who are not Christianists support them, because they support small government. Hypocritical Republicans, OTOH, will say they support small government, then demand it retain its bloat or expand when it comes to Christianist sharia law.

There is some truth to that. While I don't agree that the abortion debate is anywhere close to being settled as the nation is still pretty evenly split, I also see a lot of truth in the fact that conservative White men are making every attempt to regress the nation on this and other social issues. Changing demographics increasingly do not support that kind of agenda in the long-term, but these people still exert more influence than they really should in 2013. The fact that a group of a few dozen Republicans is pushing, yet again, for a marriage amendment at a time when public support is now majority in support of equality in that regard, just screams out of touch.

That would be a disaster, as it would for any single county with very limited resources. Ohio is stronger as a whole and always will be.
