one thing for sure that conneaut/ashtabula area and going into northwest pa. and western new york is an area that gets pounded by lake effect snow.

This is true, but at least their summers aren't brutal. I know that that area has its weather issues but I figure things like this. If the lake doesn't freeze, that helps temperatures stay a bit warmer even if it promotes more lake-effect snow. If the lake freezes, you get less snow but colder temperatures. At least that area doesn't get both of 'em at once very much.

It's remarkable to me the number of people who will respond to posts asking for specific and pertinent information with things like "Well I haven't been there in 40 years...I've heard...people say." If you don't know or can't speak to the here and now, don't reply. There's nothing helpful about your misinformed speculation or opinion when a person has asked for facts and personal experience.

On the plus side, the summers are always cooler. They don't get that blasted humidity that hits Pittsburgh. The Erie area is always about 10 degrees cooler.
