I think their hatred for unions trump just about anything else. Think about it. The teacher unions are the strongest unions left and in this time of financial crisis they make a great target.

SB5 has provisions that would never be accepted in the private sector. What if the gov wanted to cap ALL businesses from paying more than 80% of an employees health care? Or prohibited ALL businesses from paying into any employee retirement plan?

Absolutely! If it were just about the state's financial crisis, Gov. Kascich could just enact a pay freeze/pay cut and maybe up the contribution for retirement/ health care temporarily for a couple of years until the economy rebounds (and it will!) Only Kasich wants to permanently end any sort of public union in the state.

If the fat cats had their way, we ALL would have Mcjobs with rock bottom wages and no benefits...
