KJP i never knew the NS to ever turn down free money...lol...the part about Amtrak condemning NS ROW [ the best maintained in the world ]made my belly wiggle...LOL...but seriously a safe grade crossing is no crossing at all i should know i was a signalman for 30+ yrs...idiots go around gates ignore the signals... how about a fuel tanker getting hit at 80 m.p.h. or a human...seen results of the latter i believe thats where the term "basket case" came from...something i never want to see again.Anyway Acela is going 150 m.p.h. in the northeast so can we and i can't wait to see the first double-stacks to come thru PORTSMOUTH yard. The system NS were installing for grade crossings was a GP-3000 UNITS and where based on warning time 0f 25-30 seconds... electronic programable with memory high tech for old railroaders like me... the old relay logic system allowed to much time you could make a certain yard move and they wouldn't work at all...you sound very keen on this good for you i'm not critizing you i would like to see Ohio's economy moving forward and i always supported the railroads.

There were 34,000 fatalities on major U.S. roads in 2009 (down by 9% and the lowest since 1954).

Is the decline due to more train or light rail riders, carpooling? I can see why the rate would be lower since 1954 as there weren't as many cars and the roads weren't that great back in the day...speed kills. Did you ever steer one of those landboats with out power steering?

Right. Haven't heard a peep about it in quite some time.

Just did a Google News Search for "Ohio Rail". Nothing.

O wait... I did find something from May after trying News search for "OHIO 3-C":

The Lantern - After $25 million study, construction of Ohio rail not likely

I highly doubt that it WILL NOT be built ... think about it, what'd we going to be the only state in the U.S. to not expand on inter-city/state/regional rail?

Okay ... maybe Mississippi too!

Well it looks like Cleveland is going to built a train station for the 3C anyways: Cleveland plans intermodal transportation center to link key landmarks | cleveland.com

It looks like Cincinnati has its Streetcar / Transit plans all in order , Cleveland is also working on there future plans. So it looks like i don't have to worry about Ohio's Transit / Rail Future.
