Housing is a mandatory cost, so I wouldn't discredit the affect our lower housing prices has on making OK desirable. When I browse through the WA/CA forums, one of the biggest complaints from locals and transplants alike is the cost of housing. As you've pointed out (I think it was you, at least), there are other states, like TX, that offer a nice alternative - low cost of living/housing and more to do. Buuutt that's not what the thread was asking for, so I didn't put asterisks on my list.
I lived in Tejas for over ten years. It's nice to visit now and then for business, but I don't miss it a bit. One thing ya'll have failed to highlight is the ridiculously high property taxes in Texas. Not to mention, that those property taxes, in general, will go up almost every year.

I got used to (fed up) the hack from the Property Commission down there telling me my house had increased in value (we lived in very blue collar neighborhoods) every year. It's a joke and a nice little (or big) racket they're running.

Agreed property taxes are high but there is no state income tax and no sales tax on most foods purchased at the grocery store. The government is going to get your money one way or another!

I'm actually moving back to Texas in a few months and think Edmond is a nice place but I won't miss it at all once I'm gone. I'm not bashing OKC like others, I've really enjoyed a lot of things about OkC but Texas is home to me. I will still root for the Thunder though!!

I like the Okies. Good people who are secure enough in themselves that they don't need to worry about impressing strangers. You usually can't tell a multi-millionaire from a broke day laborer in a small Oklahoma town.

I don't know why Republicans and the wealthy seem to think property taxes are easier to tolerate. Perhaps, the wealthy think taxing personal income is too much like penalizing their productivity. To me, property taxes are too much like paying rent to the government.

I'd say Spriggs is in the middle of the pack.

Van's Pig Stand and Earl's Rib Palace (the original off of Western) are my personal favorites in the Metro. Oklahoma Station is also really good, located right in the middle of the city metro. Swadley's is always a solid B to B+.

Default Don't do it!

Before we moved here from Michigan a year ago for a job, I thought, it can’t be that bad… But yes it can! I can’t think of anything positive to say about OKC. People are incredibly odd and unfriendly. Customer service is horrible, no grocery stores, no sidewalks, most everyone in the city has some kind of security system because burglaries are so common. The city lacks any energy and its eerily quiet, like I want to look behind my back when I go for walks (on peoples grassbecause there are no sidewalks). ¾ or more of the city looks very run down and I mean REALLY run down and the only manicured lawns I’ve seen are in the Heritage Hill, Crown Heights neighborhoods. You don’t have to be wealthy to take care of your lawn and remove all the trash. I’ve been to most major cities in the country and OKC and the metro area is the ugliest looking city I have ever seen. No lakes, parks or natural beauty in the area, just flat ugly looking land. The restaurant scene isn’t too bad and it seems to be getting better. You definetly can get good ethnic and all American food here. The Mexican restaurants are majority Tex-Mex, which you can make at home, so don’t bother. To me, most of the inner city of OKC reminds me of a white version of the inner city of Detroit. If you want to live in a great city, there are plenty to choose from, OKC is not one of them.

You moved here before knowing what the city looked like? Seems rash.

Clearly, giving the attitude of your post, the job was not worth it.

Here's to better days. Cheers.
