Not everybody is going to like driving an hour to the OKC or Tulsa area just to find a cool place to have dinner.
If a person doesn't see value in living in a university community then I don't see why they would want to live in Stillwater in the first place. But one of the things that annoys me more than anything is people who say Stillwater is "out in the middle of nowhere." An hour to two separate 1 million plus metros is not "nowhere." And you have Enid and Ponca City available for some dining and events as well.

Anybody who complains about Stillwater's location needs to try out some college towns like Pullman, WA and Starkville, MS.

However, Stillwater has been referred to as a blue collar college town. So some people live there not because of OSU, but because they work at one of the manufacturing plants, such as ASCO, National Standard, and Armstrong. Armstrong is the well known maker of floor tile. Also Stillwater Designs employs over 200 people to work at its HQ plant to warehouse its Made in China audio products, such as its Kicker brand of car speakers. There are a few small oil and high tech companies as well.

Yes, Pullman, WA, and Starkvile, MS, while being more isolated is even more dependent on the local university for employment and students than is Stillwater. No, thank you about trying them out.

Pawnee's Click's restaurant is thought of as a closer place to go to for a better steak dinner. But then Texas Roadhouse is quite popular in Stillwater, usually about packed by 6pm, and it isn't in Enid or Ponca City.

Until Stillwater people can get over the odd idea that the former junior high school downtown is quite acceptable for use as a fine community center, I don't expect it to have anything much better to offer, such as the fairly recently built Enid Event Center and Community Hall. I've been there before, and it is fabulous. It shames Stillwater to no end.

An hour or two makes two hours or four round-trip. I will be hungry by the time I am back in Stillwater. Wait! The concept of doggy bags may save the day.

Texas Roadhouse is a fast food joint offering utensils and seating.

That's why some people would rather go to Click's for steak in Pawnee, and isn't as far away.

Probably none. Phillips has been defunct since 1998. It's now a satellite of Northern OK College (Tonkawa). Around 1000 students.

Speaking of Northern Oklahoma College, a new building for Northern Oklahoma College is being built on the Stillwater OSU campus.

Just wanted to update everyone! We are 6 months in, and the commute is going well... We made it through our first winter. It is long, as we expected, but he has been making the most of his drives, with audio books and podcasts. He loves his work at Vance, and Edmond has been great as far as quality of life for our family. So I just wanted to throw that in there for any future military families that might be looking at this as an option. It was scary to receive orders to Vance, but really Oklahoma has been great to us so far, and definitely not as remote as it appears on, online searches

Thanks for the update. However, tell him NOT to speed through Crescent (if he goes that way) and REALLY watch it in Waukomis. I'm glad things are working out for you. We have some hard core malcontents on this board so it's nice to hear somebody for whom things are working out.
