from what you said i would suggest Norman, the university gives more things to do, the lake is decent if you like swimming in mud, but there are tons of gyms in town. i have not found a street in norman i would not worry about my wife walking on at midnight. the main issue for residents seems to be getting around during football home games. However those can be worked around also just takes some planning. the base is not far, and can be accessed by several different routes, a map helps. Now crime is every where however Norman is a decent place. plus if you want more land you can rent east of town and be more rural, if you want inside the city then the houses have a small lot but i have 3 dogs at my place. rents run a little higher then okc, because of the university. we were lucky and inherited the house we have. but do not be surprised for rents around a grand for a decent neighborhood. although lower rents can be found. if you stay on the east side of downtown you have more options to getting to tinker faster. oh and if you dont mind a 25 minute drive for entertainment you can drive into okc for thunder games or concerts. riverwind is the closest casino, but there is new castle and goldsby near also. I have had tornadoes come closer to me when i was in okc then norman, although we have had a few come thru town. We dont have a storm shelter, nor do i really want one. oh and i am a misplaced yankee so not used to tornadoes.

Is it less humid west of OK City? Less tornadoes on the west side?
Thank you.
