Congrats on the new house! You may be able to rent-to-own furniture from Rent-a-center, if there's one out there. Here's the link. Good luck.

Any of those big furniture stores on Reno between May and Portland (I think) would have what you need. Their interest rates are high, however.

You're better off checking out the classified ads for people moving, going through a divorce, death, etc., who are selling nice furniture for a very reasonable price. Also check out the thrift stores, and garage sales. Your $1000 would go very far with 2nd hand furniture, and you can always recover any sofas, dining room chairs, etc. that may be good, but not to your decorating style.

Welcome brendal. We've always had good luck at Mathis Brothers on Portland, off I-40 for our furniture needs. The sales personnel are "buggy" though. I didn't know what the Oklahoma Travelers were, so I looked them up. Congratulations to your son. I was shocked to learn that they have around for 45 years, and I haven't heard of them, that I remember. I love college, semi-pro, and amateur baseball though.

Also on the rent option, there's also a chain called Aaron and a higher-end store called Cort that's off 39th Expressway.

I've found that I really like Factory Direct for furniture. They're owned by Mathis Brothers, but tend to be cheaper & less pressure. Also the old Evans is good - can't remember what it's called now - but I don't think they have payment plans as flexible as others.

I agree about the garage sale idea - if you have the time. Spray paint (esp. black) is a great solution for tables & dressers, and slipcovers do a pretty good job. I saw a trick once on HGTV to put a long, thin, PVC pipe in the couch, between the cushions & back, to keep the slipcover in place. Wish I would've known that trick when I had one!

You can get some really good tips from HGTV.
