I grew up in Jacksonville, and it has always been mainly a football town. As far as I know, there are no plans for the city to pursue professional teams in any other sport. They just moved back up to AAA baseball this season after 41 years as a AA city.

I currently live in Las Vegas (the Thunder arrived in OKC not long after I left - what was then called the Ford Center was under construction when I left). With legalized sports gambling now about to become the norm, the stigma of casinos isn't what it was. The NHL Golden Knights proved that pro sports will work here (much like hosting the Hornets set the stage for the Thunder), the Raiders moved into a new state-of-the-art stadium last year (ironically just as COVID hit and it was empty all season). The owners of the MLB Athletics have been to town several times looking at potential stadium sites, and the NBA is considered a foregone conclusion, whether it is an expansion team or a relocated franchise. The WNBA is already here. We could conceivably go from no pro sports to four or five within a 5-7 year period.

I went to many Blazers-Oilers games back during the days of the Central Hockey League. Those games were always fun. I still have a Blazers jersey in the closet.

Didn't the Tulsa Oilers beat the OKC Blazers for a championship once???

There won't be any expansion teams in Oklahoma. It's middle of the pack when it comes to population growth. The state population will only go up by about 400k by 2040. OK is the 28th most populated state now, and still will be the 28th most populated state 20 years from now. Texas is projected to gain almost 11 million people in the same time frame. So we'll surely see some expansion teams there. Pro teams in Austin finally probably. And most likely a few in other cities there.

I still don't get why the NBA would want a team in OKC and not the Seattle metro area... nevermind two teams in Oklahoma.

Word on the street is that the next two teams are guaranteed to be Seattle and Las Vegas.

Yup, I would count on these too. San Diego is a very big market with only one pro team, but the huge transplant population makes it a horrible place for a team to turn a profit not to mention the huge market just North of SD. Everyone in SD seems to root for the team where they came from. I feel like the same would happen in Austin.

Professional sports casters broke the news long ago the 2 new NBA Teams are Seattle& Vegas in 2024.OKC is setting up the ground work for luring MLS to OKC with the passage of MAPS 4.

And Tulsa is in a worst predicament than Austin which caught up with San Antonio, and replaced it as the Alpha MSA, attractive expansion Major League Sports Market.

TULSA doesn't want to be a MLST BIG CITY, But That's OKC Whole Chamber Of Commerce Advertising Campaign We Are A Major League CITY!!!
