Smile Relocation questions - schools, and chess

Hello! I've been job hunting, and last week had an interview in OKC that went very well. I'm hoping that I get an offer from this company. Right now I live in Jenks (SW of Tulsa), and will have to drive until my house sells. I have been reading through the boards and have found a lot of great data that is helping me narrow down my search of where in the OKC area to move to. But I do have some questions, and would love any input or advice.

I have three school age children, so schools are important. I'm not so focused on being in the best school in the state, as much as I am trying to find the best school for their needs. My oldest has Aspergers - he is very bright and excels in math/science, but struggles with writing, and has poor social skills. So he is the kid who is often picked on or bullied. One thing that he loves is chess, and playing chess has given him a peer group where he can feel comfortable. So as strange as it may sound, a school with a chess club would be idea for him (he will be going into 7th grade.) In addition, he is several grades ahead in math, so need to find a place where he can continue to take advance classes. My middle son has several medical and developmental issues - and has an IEP. But he is in a regular classroom, and doesn't really need much in the way of special ed services beyond some OT and a few classroom inteventions. My youngest will start kindergarten this fall.

I am also a single parent, and if I get this job will be working in downtown OKC. I would like to keep my commute to less than 30 minutes, since more time commuting equals less time with my kids. I'd love to find a community with lot of sports and other activities for kids. Housing prices seem fairly comparable to the Tulsa area, so I have found houses all around the metro in my price range, so right now I am more focused on finding the right city/community than a particular home.

My parents live in Mounds, so I haven't looked much to the west side of OKC, as we will probably drive to Mounds several times a month. I've read or been told a lot of positive things about Edmond, Moore, Norman, and Harrah. I also remember seeing a lot of kids from Carl Albert school at the last chess tournament - but I'm not quite sure where it is located.

Any feedback on these areas (or others that I didn't mention) would be greatly appreciated. I am really hoping to get this job, and am looking forward to moving to the OKC area.

Summit Middle School in Edmond has a chess club. It just started this past year so I don't know how competitive it is yet. The special ed teachers at Summit are also awesome. Summit is part of Edmond schools, but lies within the OKC borders. It has a truly diverse student population, fantastic administrators, and great teachers (ok, I'm biased.)

Smile Thank you Calitook!

That is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for - thank you! I've had strange reactions from people when I ask about chess clubs - but it's one of those little things that could make a big difference in helping my son with make new friends in a new place.
