Can anyone recommend a swimming lake good for a family day trip near OKC?

Lake Arcadia.

If you want travel a bit out of Oklahoma City I'd checkout Lake Arbuckle or even Lake Murray.

Since Lake Arcadia is practically in OKC, it sounds like a plan. My only experience would be Lake Texoma, much farther away, but where I spent many an hour swimming at Little Glasses.

Lake Eufaula has great sandy beaches. It's about an hour and a half east of OKC .

We used to ski Eufaula a lot.

I like it; it's a bit muddier than the other lakes mentioned.

Porum Landing AKA Dutchess Creek, Brooken Cove and Number 9 Landing are not too bad. The farther you get away from the Deep Fork the clearer the water seems to get.

Arcadia is ok.. it's close enough but about $7 a car to get in.

Now for a little more of a day trip... Lake Arbuckle is good as well, but not far from there is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area (in Sulphur, Ok) with the Little Niagara and some cool (literally) natural spring fed pools to swim in. There is also a Visitor/Learning center and hiking/walking trails. Good place to camp also.

Lake Arbuckle has been a family favorite of ours for a long time.

I'd suggest Thunderbird too, but there's a reason it's called "Lake Dirtybird" by the locals. Good fishin' though.

Several years ago I was on Lake Eufaula in a houseboat which belonged to friends. Their young daughter and I were sitting on the back with our legs dangling. I mentioned how much the area reminded me of Africa and how easy it would be to pretend that's where we were. She agreed she'd seen the movie, The African Queen. I began spinning a tale using Africa as the setting. Eventually, looking at her and asking what did she think? Gazing somberly up at me, she said, "I think you are the biggest liar I've ever heard." Apparently, the kid wasn't into pretending.

A few years back I went swimming in lake Thunderbird. The water was so muddy that it turned my underwear pink, I could not get it to wash out!

I also saw one of the biggest wolf spiders in my life, it was in the restroom. That sucker was huge!
