We are thinking about moving to Durant ok and race Motorcycles. Motocross specifically, and am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the shop called Jones Motorsports in Durant. Has anyone had any dealings with them? All comment on Durant itself are welcome also.

Hi Cndi79

I don't live near Durant so I don't know about that shop. Durant is a nice city in SE Oklahoma that seems to be growing. I didn't know until now that they had a motocross track there. I have been to a motocross race and it was quite something to see what those riders can do!

I have posted a few times about Durant. You can search for them but in summary it is a great small town which is thriving and growing. One of the best small towns in Oklahoma in my view. It has low unemployment and good jobs such as Cardinal Glass, which makes glass for one of the big custom window makers in the US as well as many other uses. The Choctaw Casino has been a good neighbor to Durant and helped make improvements in the football Stadium in town and for a community center of the SE side of Durant. It is closer to Dallas than OKC or Tulsa and is benefiting from companies wanting to be near Dallas but like the workforce in Durant and cost of doing business. Nice climate for OK since it is on the southern end near where the hills of SE Ok start so a little hilly and green. It is near Lake Texoma as well so lots to do for a small Oklahoma town.

I do not know the motorcross business you asked about as I no longer live in Durant.

The US Census recently added Durant (and Bryan County) to the Dallas-Fort Worth CSA, a region now with over 7 million people!

Johnhw2, I see you know a lot about Durant. I am relocating there over in a week
Which apartments would you advise me to look at? I am going to work for the Casino and open to relocate to Durant OK, DenisonTX or Sherman TX. Of course i prefer to drive as less as possible. Any help/advise would be appreciated!

I grew up in Durant and have family living there so I visit often. I can not advise on apartments how ever as I am unfamiliar with that aspect of life in Durant. Try Durant for an apartment but unemployment is very low there due to the university and casino jobs.. Denison is less than 20 miles from the casino and Sherman is less than 30. All three are nice towns to live in.

When unemployment is low it is a good sign, isn't it? When Isearched on Internet for an apartment I found only 3 acceptable ones, one foreach of those cities. I guess I should look around as soon as I arrive....Whoknows how they look in real life and what kind of neighborhood around

I think when all the apartments are rented it is a better sign. But the best clue is few empty buildings in commercial areas, and a low number of For Sale signs by realtors in family neighborhoods. Renters and home owners typically move between June1 and August 1. It is the best time all year to get what you want.

Both low unemployment and low availability of rental places are signs of a strong job market. Durant is a surprisingly vibrant job market and has much more to do than a typical small town due to the casinos bringing in entertainment and supporting restaurants as well as lake texoma just 10 miles away. Let's us know how things go for you there
