It has a number of industries and a broad employment base from the huge Choctaw Casino that is closest Casino to Dallas tx and which has doubled in size in my 11 years in DFW.

Cardinal Glass makes glass in a 5 acre covered facility just west of Durant, it located in Durant about 20 years ago.

CMC recently built a micro steel mill SE of Durant, this plant melts 100 truck loads of scrap metal daily to produce rebar, pipes etc whipped to Dallas, etc.

Durant is the HQ of the Choctaw Indian tribe now and the casino brings outsiders in and opportunities for theft and other crimes against visitors. So the ratio of Crimes per population is high but the town is very safe. My mom has lived there for 90 years and never had an issue nor my sister's famly who lives there too.

Its warmer than most of Oklahoma slightly with its southern location. It is hilly around there and gets plenty of rain so its green but not too far from SE Oklahoma where the terrain is more rugged and isolated with good hiking and camping options. There is a state university in town so lots of things to do and entertainment options between the casino and the university.

Good luck with your search
