Will be held at the city county building (1819 Farnam) on the 11th floor in the central planning conference room this Friday 12/10/2010 starting at 11:30 am and lasting until 12:30 pm. What will be discussed is basically anything related to winter commuting. So you will get advice on how to ride defensively and on what to wear. Bring a brown bag lunch if you want.

Why would I go to a meeting for an hour to learn how to ride defensively and how to dress warm? Seems like common sense to me.

Trust me it's not. What is "common sense" for other activities in winter is overkill on a bicycle. Whats key is keeping ones hands, feet, and head warm. Even with a light coat I overheat even on days well below freezing. So counter to "common sense" one needs to know how to keep cool in the winter, not warm (other than the 3 parts mentioned above).

As many of Omaha's commuter cyclists are still fairly new to commuter cycling anything on how to ride defensively is good. In the 3 years I have been commuting, I have seen the number of commuters over double. And one can easily pick out the commuters from the recreational cyclist.

I'd be interested in attending, unfortunately, I have to work during the scheduled time. Perhaps you can post discussion highlights in the forum.
