Of course the levees will hold. There is over 7 feet of levee above the river. They held, from what I have been told, in 1952 when the river crested at over 40 feet and it's at 33 now and expect to stay around that. It is extreamly unlikely that a levee would fail in this flood when they did not in 1952.

I see CB has raised their flood watch to level one, meaning people should start making plans just in case.

Levees are breaking up-and-down the river so I think it's naive to assume that it isn't possible here. The water continues to make its way down the river and considering that it will be there for at least another two months, I am not very confident.

I wouldn't be able to comprehend a disaster as big as levees breaking on either side of the Missouri near Omaha. I hope that such a thing would never happen. I feel like our metro area has a better chance because of the resources our big city has to sure up levees or create a second line of defense. Plentiful volunteers, too. Also, I do feel like since the river is higher above flood stage south of here, the lower amount of water being held by the levees here is also in our favor. I think it's safe to assume the levees won't be breached at least.

Your forgetting that the places were the levees have failed were nearly at the tops of the levees. Also the fact that omaha's levees held in 52 tells me they will hold now as this flood is less severe and Omaha has built the levees up from then as well.

And I never said it was not possible, just "extremely unlikely". The levees in Omaha are very well built, unlike those in the rural areas that have failed.

Omaha's levees are pretty much solid. Iowa's, not so much.
