There are a handful of rickshaws in North Downtown.

I hate this though. Why ruin what could be a really cool part of the CWS?

Looks like Omaha Gubbermint is getting further into the nanny business. "We must protect people from themselves and their bad decisions! They could, like, um, DIE or something!"

Never mind quaint and useful. Never mind a valuable service. Never mind that a friend and his group of 20 baseball-fanatic friends visiting Omaha from SC last year for the CWS wrote me about how awesome it was that I had moved to such an inspirationally-creative and business-friendly State. Never mind that a few businesses actually make money. What matters is government must prove its heavy hand of power under the guise of protectionism.

The story next to it cocked my pistol, too. A guy runs a free haunted house for children on Halloween for years, then suddenly the city wants to inspect it for an "occupancy certificate" to ensure its safety? How about this - if you are afraid for your kid to go into a handmade-from-pallets local entertainment center - don't let them go. If you are worried about a carriage or rickshaw slowing down traffic to encourage mouth-breathers to break the law and step out into traffic - either don't be a mouthbreather, or expect a ticket or injury. Otherwise, shaddup and mind your own biznez.

All governments get too big for their britches, if the people permit it, or demand to be protected from themselves and their own choices.

The fact that nobody complains about those things is the key I think. It's not like traffic can move through there at breakneck speeds anyways. Most of the time those carriages are passing the cars. haha.

Many people don't know that Chicago got it's nickname (The Windy City) not because of the weather, but because of it's long winded politicians.
