You do know, don't you, that more viruses, diseases are germs are spread in hospitals than in any other one place, don't you? You do know, don't you, that staff infections - as a result of being in a hospital - are commonplace, don't you?

It happened right after the vaccine was licensed, so I doubt I could find anything now. It was in the sort-of pre-internet age. Here is a link about chickenpox deaths in general:

Thank you.

I'm fully aware of the problems with Chicken Pox. But let's be honest. The vast majority of the serious problems are with people who are older when they contact the virus. And the Chicken Pox Vaccine is not without its problems and side effects. Further, we don't know the long-term ramifications.

From the link I just posted:

From 1990 to 1994, before there was a vaccine available, there were about 50 chickenpox deaths in children and 50 chickenpox deaths in adults every year. Most of these people were healthy or did not have a medical illness (such as cancer) that placed them at higher risk of getting severe chickenpox.

Having worked in immunization programs for 30+ years, I can say I have NEVER seen a severe chickenpox vaccine reaction, and I've seen very few mild reactions (short-term fever, rash).

Just to clarify, you may have been in immunization programs for 30+ years but I expect you have only had direct experience with the chickenpox vaccine for the last 13 years (since it was introduced to the US in 1995 as previously stated).

Sorry, nitpicky I know.

Thanks, you're correct. But in those 13 years, I stand by what I said.

I do not want to be disrespectful of you, or your profession.

But do you really think you're bringing an objective focus into this? Of COURSE you're "pro-immunization" for everything. Your very job, income and livelihood are connected.

I am also EDUCATED in that field. As you said, there are anti-immunization health professionals. And you are being disrespectful in making that comment. I could do many kinds of nursing where I would make more money than working in a pediatric office.

Well, then the medical profession is going to have to buck up and be tolerant of people who are a bit cynical. And I'm cynical.

I'm on THE OTHER SIDE of the desk. I'm the guy who pays $1,000 per month for health insurance, only to have the insurance company buck on every bill, leaving me paying the majority of every medical bill anyway.

I'm the guy who walks into hospitals (not for personal health, but for professional reasons) and sees overly-opulent buildings that are ALWAYS in the middle of multi-million dollar building projects. Find me ONE hospital in Omaha that has not been in the middle of EXTREMELY expensive building projects in the past 10 years. BILLIONS of dollars per year are passing through the hands of our local medical community, and for the most part, patient care really isn't improving.

I'm the guy whose mother has cancer, and has seen an IDIOT doctor - who has to be told what my mom's name is every time she sticks her head in the door for 20 seconds - screw up and give my mom somebody else's chemo, almost killing her. I'm the guy watching doctors and hospitals charge hundreds of thousands of dollars to NOT cure people of their diseases. And these medical professionals don't WANT to cure people, because it'd cut into their profits. After all, people who aren't sick don't need doctors and hospitals.

I'm also the guy who IS educated as to other things regarding the medical BUSINESS. No matter what anybody tries to say, it IS all about the money. It IS all about the multi-million dollar research grants that the medical industry wants to keep receiving. It IS about having enough money to oil this behemoth, keep it operating and keep it growing.

Walk a kid into a medical clinic for something as simple as an ear-ache, and you will NOT get out of there for less than several hundred dollars. Most likely, you've wasted several hours there, and only had a doctor walk in, say "Hi", spend 15 seconds looking at a chart - then scribbling down a random prescription that will cost you another hundred dollars at the local pharmacy. And most likely, if the parent had simply kept the kid home for a day, the kid's immune system would have built the necessary antibodies and healed itself anyway. But that is NOT what the medical industry wants to have happen!

Can you see why so many people are viewing medical professionals like political professionals?

I thank you for not blaming the nurses for the problems with your mother's chemo! We better get back on topic, about chickenpox parties. I think they're a bad idea, and that's putting it diplomatically.
