I think we all know that that ain't gonna happen. The people in Council Bluffs seem to just now be getting around to acknowledging the fact that there are actually black people in the area.

I think that's pretty exaggerated. I lived in CB from 96-2002 and we had some black kids at our school who did just fine. I don't think gays would have too much trouble there.
Although, I think if you see a mad rush of gays to Iowa it will probably be on the eastern, more liberal side of Iowa.

Also, does anyone else find it funny that the supposedly hip, progressive and trendy California shot down their gay marriage proposal, yet us supposedly backwards midwest hicks actually passed a law allowing it?

Well, unfortunately it looks like the same pattern actually. The courts in Cali (and Iowa) see it as a civil rights issue and so they struck down a voter-approved law defining marriage as between one man and one woman. The "traditional" marriage activists are now going to try to get the issue on the ballot in Iowa (same as they did in Cali) because they assume the average Iowan on the street is more conservative in their views than the courts. When this happened in Cali, as we all know, voters then passed another law (actually a constitutional amendment supposedly) defining marriage as between man+woman
So excited as I am about this, I'm sure that it is the tip of the iceberg.

If I'm reading this law correctly, they won't be able to sidestep it and institute a ban anyways. Looks like the Iowa judges were a little bit smarter than the Commiefornia judges.
