i have friends how bought a 3500sf house in corona last year for well under your housing budget, i think was just over $400k. corona is cheaper than OC for a reason, the commute. the 91 is as bad as they say, i had to make that drive from corona into OC off and on a handful of years ago. it sucks! and i only had to get to fullerton/anaheim. and even if you use the toll roads, you're still looking at probably an hour each way (and it's expensive as others have mentioned). your budget might not get you 3000+sf in OC, but save yourself the headache of commuting (unless you can use the metrolink train) and live in a smaller house in OC. good luck!

Not if you take Metrolink.

Yes, that line runs from Downtown Riverside(or SB?) to San Clemente or Oceanside

OK it still looks like it takes an hour and a half, not counting getting to/from the actual destination, and costs $16/day. So figure 4 hours a day in transit. Nice.

Apparently you have the money to live in the OC. Forget Riverside County. The drive is not the only thing that sucks. Don't get me wrong the commute in the OC can suck also. I have lived in both areas for a long time and you can't get around traffic problems. The difference is if you live in Corona and must commute to Irvine you must take the 91 at least as far as the toll road. If there is a SIG alert on the 91 you are screwed with no options except going south to the Ortega Highway and over. And the Ortega is hell and a death trap.
Oh, and if you are a 8-5 kind of person the toll road coming home will seem great until you start down the hill to the 91 transition. Total waste of money, take the 5 to the 55 to the 91 and get into the express lanes still sucks but quicker.
Spend more and live in Orange County, you will thank me someday.

Well Corona is out. I just found out that the new headquarters is located very close to John Wayne Airport. What part of town would that be considered? Is that Santa Ana?

Technically the airport is in unincorporated Orange County but it carries a Santa Ana address and is bordered by Irvine, Newport Beach, and Costa Mesa.

Very true it has a Santa Ana address but is surrounded by the cities listed above. I worked there for 7 years and that is why I said forget living in Riverside County.
