"If you are like what you say". Really???
Based on the overall tone of your reply, I would bet you're a perpetuator of these stereotypes.

I'm Mexican American and grew up in a poor neighborhood in L.A. I worked hard in school and rose to become a physician. I'm well aware of those negative stereotypes regarding the Hispanic community. What is comical however is that many poor white people lived in our neighborhoods. There were many stereotypes about them as well namely

1. They were too lazy to get a job because they felt they were above the blue collar jobs that Mexican did. So they would go on welfare and then complain about the government and Mexicans stealing their jobs.
2. They would get divorced multiple times and have multiple spouses.
3. Their children always misbehaved because their parents tried to be their friend and send them to "time out" when they were bad.
4. They were incapable of pronouncing any foreign name even if it was 4 or 5 letters. If it was anything other than David or Michael, it was a struggle for them.
5. Their garages were never used for cars because they had so much junk piled in them.
6. They were intimidated by anything foreign. If it was seasoned with anything but salt and black pepper, it was too "spicy" for them.
7. They would spend a lot of money buying a truck and then raising it instead of buying a nice car.
8. They would choose to "home school" their kids because they feared the public school system. But rather than teach their kids, they would leave them alone at their home and the kids would play video games all day or fart around.
9. They would make fun of Mexican accents when speaking English but were too lazy to learn a second language.
10. They would make fun of brown people and brown skin but would spend thousands trying to tan and get dark

As you can see, negative stereotypes went both ways. They are inaccurate and caricatures of reality.

Must have been imports from other parts of the country. White people who grew up here tend to like it hot and spicy due to growing up eating the good stuff.

Right. Because the screaming and yelling in the typical household isn't enough. How many gangbangers and latin disciples grew up in homes that gave out smacks from chanclas instead of timeouts.

Those chanclas seem to be as useless as the people using them.

As a white guy myself, I can tell you most of those are true

It all comes to socioeconomic status and educational status. People who are educated and earn a certain income behave and act differently than those who aren't regardless of race. And the people who lack these attributes behave a certain way regardless of race.

You mean all the white people down there don't wear huaraches and sombreros too? After all, according to you all the white people down there like their food spicy.

It's not about resorting to violence but simply doing your job as a parent and enforcing rules and consequences. Too many of the MTV "Jackass" and X-Games generation have parents who let them do whatever they want. They give them medals for getting C's in school because they "tried." Asians parents discipline their kids and they seem to be doing well. The famous Tiger Mom wasn't about a woman giving out timeouts and telling her kids it was okay to drop out of school to become an actor or a skater.
