1500 sf condo here, I check SCE's smart meter every day, without A/C we use about 300 kilowatt-hours for a monthly bill of about $40 ... that's for two people, when we have a visitor for one month, we go up to about 400 kilowatt hours for a bill of about $60. Like someone says, once you get into Tier 3 your costs double. I found that my electric oven really increased costs over the holidays when I used it often for roast beef and turkeys, with the SCE bill going up to $80 in December. When I'm just using the gas range and not the oven my electric costs go down. Do you have an electric stove top or gas stove top?

Also I switched all my recessed lights from incandescent to LED (important to note, switched to LED no CFL ... CFLs have terrible light quality) and that reduced my electric bill by about 20%, from $50 to $40 monthly. LED lights are about $10 each but using them is like not having lights on, they are so energy efficient. Be sure you use the 2700Kelvin kind which give off the nice warm light you get from regular incandescent bulbs, not the daylight kind which are too "white". I would highly recommend switching to LED bulbs, they have a lifetime of 20 years and you just take them with you if you move and never have to buy light bulbs again.

I used to live in a 1 bedroom apartment. No AC. my electricity bill was never more than $20. It was just mostly lights and fan during the summer. We lived 5 mins away from the beach so it wasn't even that hot during summer months.

...with a stifling 60% humidity and a 70 dew point that will make it miserable and feel like 110. Yea, no thanks. Have fun with that though

~$80 was the most expensive electric bill I had while living in a 700-ish sqft apartment. It was during the infamous 2012 heat wave and I had kept the thermostat at 82 degrees.
