I am moving to OC from out-of-state and will be working at two different locations, Buena Park and Irvine. As my wife and I are considering different areas to settle, I am wondering how the traffic would be commuting from Yorba Linda to Irvine and back. Can someone give me some suggested routes and approximately how long the commute would be?

You can either take the 91 east to the toll roads or take the 91 fwy west go down the 55 fwy to the 5 fwy south to Irvine.
You can also go down the 91 west past the 55 fwy and go to the 57 south fwy to the 5 fwy south.
( depending on where in YL you may just be able to take streets to the 55 fwy and not need the 91 fwy)
To get to BP from YL just take 91 west.

^^^What he said... also, when I worked in Irvine I had a friend in the office who lived in YL. She would sometimes take Imperial Hwy down to Cannon to Santiago Cyn (which turns into Jamboree), especially if there was an accident on the freeway.

Toll roads all the way!!! The gas you save moving slow in traffic will almost pay for the toll cost but the time you save is the real key. Avoid the 55 at all costs!!!

It's one of the easier commutes, if you take the toll road going south from YL you can even get off at Chapman and take Jamboree south to Irvine (which is never crowded except for a small section at the 5 freeway) and save a bit on tolls.

Yes, 241 is the toll road you can pick up from YL heading south. After a few miles you can pick up the 261 West to get to downtown Irvine or else go a little further and you can pick up 133 West which will take you to south Irvine near the Spectrum.

Also: Go to The Toll Roads website and you can pull up a map, learn rates, etc.

I can vouch for that. I lived in north Orange and worked by JWA in Irvine for 10 years. The 55 stole much of my life! I remember suffering through construction while they added a lane in each direction (late '90s) and once they were done, it was no different.
