Seattle area - loved it when we lived in Mukilteo through '08. Definitely know the dark winters. We came here in '12 after a stint in the midwest (too cold/hot/buggy/muggy, too little just right). We landed in Huntington Beach, love it. Best weather is near the beaches. Suggest you look in Costa Mesa. The Newport/Mesa consolidated school district is well funded and good schools, don't be afraid of the test scores. We rented the first two years. The rental market is very competitive. Be ready to have to decide on a place you like the same day you see it. Be ready to have a cashiers check the same day you see it and to sign an application immediately. I am afraid you may be pretty disappointed in housing available for less than $4K/month.
