Does anyone know how long a daily commute would take? What would the traffic be like? Husband will set up an office in Carlsbad but we'd like to live in Irvine.

There isn't any traffic south of the El Toro Y through the Mission Viejo-San Clemente area in the morning. It is 45 miles though from Irvine's southern most border to the city of Carlsbad so it will be about a 45 minute drive.

If you can afford it, consider the community of Talega in San Clemente. It is a masterplanned development within the great community of San Clemente that is similar to Irvine. Carlsbad is only about 25 minutes from there.

I do this drive frequently, as missionhome mentioned it is 40-45 minutes Max. The watchout coming northbound is the ICE checkpoint in Pendelton, If it is stopping traffic & you hit it wrong that can tack on .25-.75 hour. An infrequent occurence, but it seems to happen to me once a quarter or so.

That is insane if you asked me. I'll travel max 30 miles to work and that is only because I live with my parents and hence I have to commute. If I was on my own I would just live in Carlsbad. Not worth the time and money to do that.

I worked in Carlsbad for about a year in half and the drive wasn't bad at all. I hopped on the 5 in Mission Viejo and exited at Mount Palomar Airport Rd and it would take me about 45 minutes. It is an easy drive.
