Moving from London to California in January 2013. would be working in San Diego but don't mind the commute to work as need good area for family home (raise kids) schools etc. Considering Irvine and Anaheim. Any suggestions and or recommendations on the best area out of all these?
Racism, Safety and all Social and Economical aspects that would affect a young Afro Caribbean family has to be considered when replying please.

Kindest Regards and much appreciated.

This should probably be in the San Diego forum because there are a number of family-friendly and safe middle-class communities there where you would feel comfortable. San Diegans know the particulars.

You might want to present them with other basics such as a budget (own or rent?); community size; maximum travel distance to your job; proximity to the ocean; school ratings; more urban/less urban setting?.......

One note, with kids, are you sure you don't mind a long commute? Traveling from Orange County (Irvine or Anaheim) to San Diego on a daily basis would be more than draining and leave you little time for your family; or to be available for possible emergencies.

Besides, I can't think of a single compelling reason as to why anyone who works in San Diego would even decide to move to one of those cities when there are other close-by options.

That said, I live in South (Orange) County and work in San Diego County, but would never make a regular commute to the the city of San Diego.

One more thing, you are considering Perris and Moreno Valley??? Are you sure?

just so you know what commute you'd be signing up for. Irvine to San Diego is minimum 70 minutes each way. If you are talking UTC/ La Jolla area as a destination. Tack on another 20 minutes if you are heading further south to down town San Diego. Tack on 20 more minutes if you are coming from anaheim. So anaheim- Down Town san diego you are looking at almost 2 hours - each way - and that is on a good day. My personal worst for Irvine to san diego was 3.5 hours (one way) in a rainstorm.

I would reccomend you post in the San Diego forum. There are a number of wonderful places to live in San Diego county. And to be perfectly honest, I've always felt San Diego was more ethnically open then OC. OC is not the white suburb of LA it used to be, but some of that still lingers. San Diego has always had a strong mexican flavor and with all the military folk coming thru, more diverse and open to newcomers.

You have quite an interesting blend of citites mentioned.
Lake Perris and Moreno Valley are by far the cheapest. How to say this nicely? The communities have some bad areas. Look into that before you decide anything. The weather inthe Inland Empire is usually hotter and smoggier than San Diego also.

I work in an Anaheim school, and I lived there for years. It's not a city I would be in a hurry to move to either. Zip codes 92807 or 92808 are the nicest. Lots of bad areas in Anaheim and not even close demographically to the other city, Irvine, that you also mentioned.

Irivine is expensive, but it is closest to your job.

That being said...
The traffic on Orange County freeways is miserable...seriously. There are so many nice communities in San Diego County. I would STRONGLY advise you to check those area out before you look inland. San Diego isn't a county known for bad crime or smog. I would suggest you post a query on their forum as well.

There is no job on this planet I would take in SD County if I had to live in Orange County. You'll HATE the commute. Visit before you move and drive it at five PM on a weeknight if you think we're exagerrating.

Recommend you email (assuming you're still in England) some of the child care places. Try Montessori and in general search for daycares.

Hmmm, you haven't responded to any of the earlier posts, but you still want people to help you?? That's interesting.

Yelp can be a good source for reviews of childcare providers. I would go through this list and contact the businesses with ratings of 4 and above:

Infant day care Irvine, CA
