A 2 bedroom apartment for $800 isn't going to happen. Probably not even in the worst part of Santa Ana or Anaheim. Double that is about average in any livable part of OC. Nicer cities will be even more. You'll need to earn 3x the rent to get accepted at most places. That's just under $58k/yr. What do you do for a living?

The prices are coming down. My brother just negotiated a 9 percent reduction on his apt in Irvine. But to be honest, you won't find any 2 bedrooms in OC for $800.

800 is too low. 1200-1400 is more reasonable for a safe, respectable area.

I'm just curious....why would you choose to move to Orange County in this economy? Is it a necessary move, or is it by choice? Your mention of $800 rents prompts me to suggest you do a little more research about living here. It is quite expensive.

If you don't come here with a job waiting for you and at least 3-4 (maybe even more) months of living expenses, it will be very tough.

What are of OC interests you?

Rent is not the only thing that is costly. Many people find significatny higher prices for gas, food, eating out, movies, insurance, . . . pretty much everything. Be prepared.

How old is the other daughter?

What does dad think about you moving to California with his kids?

Funny! I'm moving from OC to either Denver or Austin!
Do you have familly here, or why did you choose it?
We have a 2 bedroom which goes for $1700/mo, just average with 1 car garage, and pool in RSM a good, safe, middle-class (not ultra-nice) neighborhood with excellent schools. The purchase of a 20 year old condo will run you $200-300K in the same neighborhood.
We only earn $80K/year, and cannot afford the OC lifestyle.

I second bluucrayonz-don't do it! If you are even thinking $800 will get you a two bedroom stop looking in OC. There are places out there much more affordable so unless you HAVE to move, don't!
