Hello World!

I am reaching out to you all in hopes of receiving some advise. I currently live in Chicago, work an admin job at a law office and am already dreading the winter ahead. I have been to California a few times, and my sister just moved to LA for school, and I am thinking of moving out there myself. I know that I do not want to be in LA (too big and crowded for me) but I do know that type of place I would like to inhabit: somewhere smaller, more low key, near the beach, where there is a focus on health, wellness, yoga, music and the arts. I was looking south of LA, but I am worried it will be too pricey for me near Laguna Beach, for example. I am also open to somewhere north of San Diego. I appreciate any and all advise!

If your focus is what you listed then Laguna is the place for that.

You won't be able to live in Laguna Beach on an admin's salary, of course, but you should be able to find a rental or share in nearby Lake Forest with an easy commute to Laguna for the desired activities. Find the job first, then hunt.

Seal Beach. What Orange County used to be. Great little seaside village with plenty of near by activities and amenities.

I live in South Orange County (San Juan Capistrano) and you can definitely consider my town, Dana Point, and San Clemente. Laguna Beach is a zoo and is only a good place in the summer IF you don't have to leave. In the winter after all the tourists go home it is a nice place but it is still expensive. Plus, fall is the best time of the year on the coast.

I would also consider north San Diego county. Oceanside, Encinitas, Carlsbad, even Solano Beach. Every town I listed has pilates and yoga studios and most of them have community theaters. Also, organic food stores are all around. Even the big chain Ralphs has a very good selection of organic vegetables.

Why not look north of LA? Say, Ventura? (has it's own forum)
