I have two job offers...

1. White Plains NY
2. Orange County

I live in PA so I would have to obviously drive across the US which is fine. How is Newport for a single 29 yr old guy? I am possibly looking into shares where people are renting rooms which I feel would make it easier to develop friends.

I will be all alone in the beginning but that's ok
NY I have 2 friends and will be 3 hrs from home.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

What would your rent budget be in California?

Use HousingMaps to find craigslist rentals on a google maps interface around Newport Beach for $900.

I guess you have to ask yourself which is more exciting, being near great beaches and a somewhat traffic ridden car ride to the core areas of LA, or, being a train ride from Tribeca / Soho / Mid Town / Meat Packing Dist / Etc but still near some OK coastal places (especially in the summer, especially given the opposite Gulf Stream eddies warm current schema versus California's cold current schema). Totally different lives. Each could be very good.

Both great places to live, both expensive. I have a family and would have preferred White Plains over CA. Wife and kids decided CA.

Why were you leaning towards White Plains?

i like the NE culture better. It took me a while to readjust to CA. My job would probably had been better there too, but that is totally personal. Also being that you are single, White Plains might not be the best choice. If I was single I will try to rent a room in Manhattan, but then again thats me.
