I'm graduating college in May and attending Pepperdine at Irvine in the fall. I'm hoping to move out to California in June or July. My boyfriend and I are looking for a one bedroom (or studio) apartment in a safe area for as cheap as possible ($1200 is probably the most we can do per month). I know Irvine is expensive, but I've found a couple apartments in Tustin, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa that fit our budget.

We don't have the money to fly out and shop for apartments in person so I'm trying to get as much information as possible before signing a lease since I won't be seeing the place before moving in.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'd also really appreciate any personal experiences, good or bad, in apartments in any areas surrounding Irvine so we know what to consider/avoid.

Thank you!

Anything in Irvine is nice. Don't live in Santa Ana. Tustin and Costa Mesa are generally OK but if you find something that looks like too good of a deal, there's a reason. Renting an apartment without seeing it and the neighborhood for yourself would be a VERY BAD IDEA.

You never want to move someplace you haven’t seen in person.

I know, but I'm going to have to unfortunately. That's why I'm trying to find as much advice as I can. I trust first-hand accounts a little more than reviews online which the apartment owners can easily write.

no problem. check out Rental-Living.com - California Apartment Communities. its a website showing all The Irvine Company (a huge development company with apartment complexes all across California, all very nice too) The website is very helpful, breaking down each complex on a map and giving the prices and everything.

To the OP: I've lived in a lot of apartments in Irvine and surrounding areas and typically preferred the apartments owned by the Irvine Company. Be sure to read some opinions on apartmentratings.com. I've had bad experiences by apartments owned by Arnel Management. This is just my opinion.

Thanks needa916! Can you provide any specific apartment names? You can private message me if that makes you more comfortable...
